Manchester United fans have been waiting a long time for the performance they saw Sunday. Sure, the Red Devils have some nice wins over big teams this year, including a 2-1 victory at Arsenal and a 3-0 one over Liverpool. But they hadn’t really dominated in either of those two games, a problem that also existed last season, as David Moyes and Ryan Giggs combined to get just one win and six points off the top six teams. Sherwood’s strikers tear apart Sunderland
All that needs truly needs to be known about Aston Villa’s destruction of Sunderland can be said in one tidy statistic: In 44 minutes, Villa scored as many road goals as they had in 14 league matches away from home. We’ll get into it in a little more depth, though, because what the Villains were able to do at the Stadium of Light on Saturday was something exceptional. The hope, year in, year out, is that the Premier League’s goal of the season is an important one that comes in a big game and has a major impact on the table. Unfortunately, that no longer looks too likely for this campaign after Matty Phillips got his team a late consolation goal Saturday with what will probably go down as one of the best strikes of 2015.
