Geoff Cameron (Stoke City)
Cameron was rested as Stoke City beat Rochdale 4-1 in the FA Cup on Monday. It’ll be interesting to see if he’s back in a starting role next week when Stoke face QPR.
Brad Guzan (Aston Villa)
Guzan sat as VIlla advanced in the FA Cup, beating Championship-leading Bournemouth 2-1. He’ll likely be back between the sticks next weekend when Villa host Arsenal on Sunday.
Tim Howard (Everton)
Everton were off this weekend, having been eliminated from the FA Cup by West Ham in the previous round.
DeAndre Yedlin (Tottenham Hotspur)
Yedlin was not selected in Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-1 defeat to Leicester. He was, however, selected by Jurgen Klinsmann to participate in the USMNT’s opening matches of 2015 against Chile and Panama, so he will be away on national duty until at least Feb. 8.
Gedion Zelalem (Arsenal)
While Zelalem was left out of Arsenal’s FA Cup victory against Brighton,
Regular national teamers not in the Premier League
Alejandro Bedoya (Nantes)
Despite Nantes having both a cup and league match this week, Bedoya only played seven minutes at the end of a 3-2 cup victory over Lyon which Nantes snatched in the 89th minute.
Sacha Kljestan (Anderlecht)
Five minutes Kljestan came on against Standard Liege, Anderlecht gave up the opener in an eventual 2-0 defeat. The loss was hardly Kljestan’s fault, though, as Anderlecht were a man down after a red card in the 53rd minute.
John Anthony Brooks (Hertha Berlin)
The Bundesliga’s winter break finally ends this week, so Brooks and the rest of the German-Americans will return to action. Brooks’ Hertha Berlin side visit Werder Bremen on Sunday morning.
Timothy Chandler (Eintracht Frankfurt)
Chandler will likely be back in the team when Eintracht Frankfurt visit last-place Freiburg on Saturday.
Julian Green (Hamburg, on loan from Bayern Munich)
He hasn’t seen much action this season for Hamburg, so it seems unlikely that Green will feature when Hamburg host Cologne on Saturday.
Fabian Johnson (Borussia Monchengladbach)
Johnson’s fourth-place Monchengladbach go to Stuttgart in the first game of the second half of the season on Saturday.
Aron Johannsson (AZ Alkmaar)
After only featuring for 15 minutes last week, Johannsson played a full 90 this week in a 1-1 draw vs. PEC Zwolle. Nothing too noteworthy in his game, but it is good that he is playing full matches in the Eredivisie.
Others on the USMNT fringes (or other notables)
Emerson Hyndman (Fulham)
Hyndman was once again not selected in Fulham’s 0-0 FA Cup tie with Sunderland.
Tim Ream (Bolton Wanderers)
Ream did not feature in Bolton’s scoreless draw at Anfield against Liverpool.
Eric Lichaj (Nottingham Forest)
Forest collapsed at the back early in a 3-2 league loss to Fulham, and Lichaj was picked out as a scapegoated, being subbed out after just 31 minutes. Nottingham proceeded to concede once more two minutes later before making the game close.
Terrence Boyd (RB Leipzig)
On winter break until the 6th of February.
Bobby Wood (1860 Munich)
While his club team remains on winter break until the 9th of February, Wood went to Chile to meet up with Klinsmann and the national team. The USMNT plays Jan. 28 and Feb. 8.
Rubio Rubin (FC Utrecht)
Rubin was subbed in just after the hour mark for Utrecht, and he played well, connecting on some quality passes, but all four goals in the 2-2 draw with Groningen were scored before he came on.
